Four Different Types of Teas

Like there are Arabica and Robusta coffee beans there are four different Camellia sinensis tea leaves; Black tea, Green tea, White tea and Oolong tea.

Flavors such as chamomile, ginger and rooibos are herbal infusions often added to enhance aroma and health benefits.

Black Tea is the most popular tea in the West. It is made of heavily oxidized Camellia sinensis leaves. It contains no calories, carbohydrates or fats.

Green Tea is used frequently in China, Japan and Korea. Various research studies suggest that Green tea can lower cholesterol, prevent cancer and increase metabolic rates. Green tea is lightly oxidized and dried.

White Tea is one of the most expensive teas. It is made of young Camellia sinensis leaves. The long process of producing the tea gives it a delicate, sweeter taste than other types of tea. It contains a small amount of caffeine and the largest amount of antioxidant which is used to prevent cancer.

Oolong Tea – Black Dragon in Chinese, is named for its long, dark leaves that look like wild black dragons when prepared. Oolong Teas are lighter in flavor than Black tea but stronger than Green tea.
